Dr. Carrie Fischer

Veterinarian

Dr. Carrie Fischer (BSc, PhD, DVM) grew up in rural Nova Scotia, then moved out West to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biochemistry at the University of Victoria. With a special interest in veterinary research, Carrie landed in cattle country to complete a PhD on antibiotics and bovine respiratory disease at the University of Calgary.

During this time, Carrie traveled the world, attending conferences that brought together researchers and veterinarians. Carrie’s love of animals then motivated her to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at University of Calgary. As a veterinary student, Carrie studied horse reproduction at Cornell University, trained piglets how to jump over hurdles, and vaccinated flamingos at the Calgary Zoo.

It was in her final year that Carrie gained a passion for small animal medicine, with keen interests in emergency and internal medicine. Since graduating, Carrie has worked at Fish Creek Pet Hospital and Calgary North Animal Hospital, and is now excited to join the Tanglefoot Fernie Veterinary Services team. Outside of the clinic, Carrie can be found on a running trail, at the local Crossfit gym, in the mountains, or at the lake with her husband, Neil, and their fur-baby, Finn.
