RVTs: The Clinical Core of Veterinary Care

Our team of Registered Veterinary Technologists play a vital role in every aspect of patient care at Fernie Veterinary Services. With advanced training, clinical expertise, and a deep passion for animal health, our RVTs are the hands-on professionals who ensure each patient receives attentive, skilled, and compassionate care.

From assisting in surgery and performing diagnostics to monitoring anesthesia and supporting clients, our RVTs are essential members of our healthcare team. They work closely with our veterinarians and support staff to maintain the highest standards of care, safety, and comfort for every animal we treat.

Hayley W.

Hayley became part of our team in June 2020 and now leads our tech team as Head RVT. Originally from Ontario, she moved to Fernie in 2013 in search of fresh air and mountain living—and never looked back.

She completed the Mountain Adventure Skills Training program at the College of the Rockies before pursuing her passion for animal care, later graduating from Thompson Rivers University as a Registered Veterinary Technologist. Hayley has a keen interest in cytology and radiology, where her skill and attention to detail make a real impact.

Outside the clinic, you’ll often find Hayley embracing everything mountain life has to offer—whether she’s ski touring, hiking, or biking the local trails. She’s also a talented vocalist in a local band and enjoys spending quality time with her fiancé, their cat Tenzin, and their dog Gambit.

Cierra B.

Cierra joined our team in June 2023 and brings valuable experience and energy to our clinic. A 2019 graduate of the Animal Health Technology program at Olds College, she began her career in emergency and internal medicine, where she developed a strong clinical foundation and a calm, confident approach to patient care.

Originally from Okotoks AB, Cierra moved to Fernie to be closer to the mountains and the outdoor lifestyle she loves. When she’s not in the clinic caring for your pets, you’ll likely find her snowboarding, snowmobiling, dirt biking, hiking, or camping—basically, anywhere outdoors.

She shares her adventures with her dog Vinny and her cat Mav, who are always along for the ride.

Kaida W.

Kaida has been a part of our clinic family since 2016, starting as a dedicated volunteer before officially joining the team as an RVT in 2021. Her journey reflects her deep-rooted passion for animal care, and she continues to bring that same heart and commitment to every patient she sees.

With a special interest in exotic animals and dental care, Kaida is also a certified wildlife rehabilitator—making her a go-to resource for some of our more unique cases. She’s a strong advocate for animal welfare in the community and proudly serves as the President of Twin Meadows Animal Rescue.

Outside the clinic, Kaida loves camping, dirt biking, and spending time with her beloved pets. She shares her home with two dogs and four cats, all named with a fun Halloween twist: Tarot and Bynx (the pups), and Salem, Casper, Bates, and Winifred (the cats).

Savannah C.

Savannah joined our team in February 2022 and has been a compassionate and dedicated presence ever since. She completed her RVT training through Penn Foster, graduating in December 2024, and has a strong passion for medical nursing and patient care.

Born and raised in the Elk Valley, Savannah grew up surrounded by animals—especially dogs and horses—which sparked her lifelong love for veterinary medicine. Her calm, attentive nature makes her a favorite among both patients and their people.

Outside the clinic, Savannah enjoys paddle boarding, volunteering with Twin Meadows and local wildlife rescues, and spending time with her two cats, Bubbles and Muffin.

Tessa H.

Tessa has been a part of our clinic family since she was just 16, starting out as a kennel attendant while still in high school. Over the past five years, she’s grown into an invaluable team member, now working as both an assistant and receptionist while pursuing her education as a veterinary technologist, with graduation set for 2026.

Tessa has a special interest in cytology, diagnostics, and caring for hospitalized patients, and she’s also passionate about large animal care. Her dedication, curiosity, and hands-on experience make her a rising star in the field.

Outside of work and studies, Tessa enjoys going for walks, biking, and swimming—but her heart is happiest on the farm. She shares her life with her cat Jackson and her beloved cow, Toad.
